how do i find a web design job?
Im unemployed but i have skills in web design and programming, how do i find work?
There are 1000s of web design job, just needed is "high skill" not only a ’skill’ and qualification, creativity and positive attitude. there are millions who have skill in web design n programming for those 1000s job. So you need to be extra skilled among those.
Set up a website (a free one is OK) that shows what you’re capable of, and let all your friends, neighbours, family know about it. Tell them to tell people they know about it.
Try your local newspaper’s classifieds.
Try Kijiji / craigslist / etc.
Try workopolis, jobmonster, etc.
Try odesk.
Keep trying until you find something that works … don’t be discouraged if it takes a long time!

When you’re looking for a job in Web design or Web development, it’s easy to get hung up on the title of the job you’re looking for. For example, I get requests all the time from people who want to become "Webmasters" and "Web Designers". The tricky part is, they may already be set up to get a job in the Web industry, but since they won’t look at anything that doesn’t have the title Web Designer, they can’t seem to get or find a job.
But there are lots of jobs available in the Web industry. You just need to learn how to look for them.

First and foremost put together a portfolio. People will be 100x more likely to hire you if they can see what you’re capable of. Secondly, don’t take on a job beyond your skill level. This will certainly hinder an chance of a customer coming back. And never deliver the goods past the deadline. This is the worst part of any customer hiring a web developer. 80% of developers are notoriously slackers. If you can manage those things above, you will surely have customers coming back, and customers sending you referrals.
For finding the initial client, it will be a grind. There are always too many web developers out there claiming to know more than they do. The pool of workers is way larger than the pool of clients in this industry, despite what other people may say. This is because there are too many hobbyists trying to make a buck, but realize after a project or 2 they don’t want to do it anymore.
Some things to try for finding the initial client
- Craigslist – This is great. Work with local people. In person relations are way better than over the web.
- Forums – Search around web master and freelance forums. There are a ton of people looking for quick jobs to be done here.
Try digitalpoint.com webmaster-talk.com rentacoder.com , just search google for more
- Friends / Family – This isn’t a favorite, but always a good place to start even if it is just to build a portfolio
Once you become confident in your skills you could put an ad in the paper, buy advertising for your portfolio.
Just be creative and don’t give up
