What laptop computer is best for installing adobe photoshop,premiere, alias maya, etc,used for graphic design? i’m planning to buy one so that i’ll be able to work while on the road.

is it dell? neo? fijitsu? between these three?

it doesn’t matter the brand of the lap top u purchase what matters is the graphic card.make sure it has a good graphic card and plenty of memory.

I want to start a web/graphic design business?

I would like to start a business in web and graphic design. This might be a silly question but I really am not sure how to go about doing this. For the web portion, is it possible to use my own web server and if I can do this how do I go about getting one set up on the internet? Thank you for any comments. Also, if this is not possible do you have any recommendations for ISPs?

If you want to start a GD business you will have to turn over your work to your client 99% of the time. They will most likely already have a web site and you do not want to be responsible for their hosting. Imagine when your one web server goes down you have to answer to all your past clients at once? Not even close to worth it. Hosting is cheap these days. Choose an isp on what you really need it for.

For Photoshop-type raster/pixel image work, Gimp at www.gimp.org
For Illustrator-type vector graphics, Inkscape. www.inkscape.org

Both of these are free OpenSource software.

There are also various smaller aps that use clip art to help you make logos, do a search for that sort of software. They tend to be rather limited.

Okay i was thinking about being a web page designer for a career and I was just wondering what kind of college degrees or training does it usually require……no one in my family has been to college so im kinda clueless about what i would need for something like that…and i was just wondering if anyone had any info about it..!!! Web design majors usually are not called web design classes. This is because most college-educated web designers are also taught other skills such as kiosk design, flash design and any other type of design that involves interactive graphics usage. A collegiate level web design program will likely go under names like;

Digital Media, Internet professional, multimedia design ,interactive media, Visual Communications, New Media, etc.

You should go to a 4 year institution and get a bachelors because most corporate jobs require degrees and becuase the electives and non-core courses that accompany getting a 4 year degree will make you a well-rounded person and seperate you from the 1 year web person that took a couple of online classes and is now calling themselves a web designer. The Art Institute of Chicago, American Academy of Art, Columbia College… All of those are in Chicago
