The Difference Between Web and Graphic Design
Designing for web and print are two different experiences. Just because a designer is good at one doesn’t mean they’ll be good at the other. It’s necessary to understand that web and print share many similarities, for more help visit to: www.instant-audio-mastery.com.but they also have many differences.
Resolution is the quality of an image. It’s measured in terms of pixels. If you see an image listed as “72 pip”, that means the image has 72 pixels per inch (pip). Because web graphics are viewed on screen, they should be no larger than 72 pips. A large pip image will load slower, and won’t necessarily look any better.
JPEG stands for Joint Photographers Experts Group. It’s a great format that retains color and detail found in photographs and graphics with lots of color blends. JPEGs can display millions of colors so it’s ideal for print work.
GIF stands for Graphics Interchange Format. Most web pages use this format because it’s supported by all web browsers, can display up to 256 colors,
For more detail go to: www.master-web-graphics.com.and can include transparent backgrounds. GIFS are appropriate for image files with little color variation, and for images that will only be viewed on screen.
Photographs saved as GIFs may appear grainy. Single color images saved as JPEGs may appear fuzzy. When you save a graphic image, consider what type of file it is. Remember, GIFs work best with images having few colors or color variations. JPEGs work best with photographs or images to be printed.
There is a major difference between choosing fonts for web as opposed to print. With print design, your completed piece will display the font specified during the design process. You don’t have to worry that a reader will open your brochure and not have the proper fonts displayed. However, web designers never know for sure if their fonts will display properly.
Unlike with print, web fonts differ based on the web browser being used. Your audience can only view the same font you’re viewing if it’s installed on their computer. If you design a beautiful website using Chaucer Bold, and none of your viewers have that font, their browsers will have to find a substitute.
This is why it’s good to be conservative when it comes to web fonts. Your beautifully designed page can look horrible when displayed on someone else’s browser. Don’t let your hard work go to waste. Stick to fonts such as Helvetica, Arial, Times New Roman, or Verdana. All web browsers are capable of displaying these fonts. However, if you do want to use a creative font, you can include it in a graphic file. But this will cause your page to load slower.
If you’re a print designer faced with designing a web page, take time to study the subject. You will be able to create a pleasing and effective site if you recognize the differences between print and web design.

What type of MAC is better for web design and graphic design?
I just asked a question about a PC and a MAC, and you all said MAC, now I want to know is which MAC model is best and what should I go for if I want to do web and graphic design?
Thanks Josh for the spelling but I am making them stand out by putting them in capitals
*Mac not MAC
Most probably a Macbook Pro Model, at about 15" is what i’d personally choose, although it’s not just what Mac you want, but software.
I have a 13" Macbook, which is what I do most of my cleanup webdesign work and graphics, using Adobe CS5 Design Premium (Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver) but a main computer to do the initial work.
As long as you get any Mac you’ll be getting a decent spec computer, so it’s whatever you can afford really. An entry-level 13" Macbook does the job nicely, but a 15" Macbook Pro would most probably be a Standard Professional Choice, or a decent spec iMac.
You should focus more on what software to use.
Green Design Agency? You Can Achieve Sustainable Graphic and Web Design
Green design agency. It does exist. Private businesses and government institutions in the UK (as elsewhere in the world) have a number of requirements. Profit is a key driver, as are its people. The planet is the third. The “triple bottom line: as it is called (People, Profit and the Planet) underlines the need for sustainable design within the drivers of any business.
The remit of a green design agency is creating visual impact with less environmental impact, while encouraging clients to consider the environmental impact of their production.
Malcolm Buttel is director of Oxygen Creative, a graphic design agency based in Tiverton Devon.
“We took control of our environmental impact as a business, applying practical environmental management techniques to what we do. Our environmental policy details how we use less energy at work, how we only use paper from sustainable sources with bio inks in our production, and how simple things like a car sharing scheme have helped us save 1000 litres a year in petrol alone.
“I am now a member of the Chartered Institute of Water and Environmental Management, and our business meets the criteria of BS8555 – the British Standard that is an equivalent to ISO14001. If nothing else, our clients know that they’re dealing with someone who takes being green seriously.”
So internal practices are important, but so is the output. It’s important that an agency considers the use of recycled paper stock with a high Post Consumer Fibre (PCF) recycled content, especially using recycled paper stock that has not been de-inked as well as unbleached or non-chlorine bleached paper stock which releases harmful toxins that could affect marine life. Think about using vegetable based printing inks such as soy inks which are renewable and emit less toxic Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs).
So, less ink is better – but a good designer can use less ink and still create maximum impact!
Green papers could be: 100% Post-Consumer Waste (PCW)
Processed Chlorine Free (PCF)
Uncoated
Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Certified.
Even a graphic design agency web design agency can contribute. In addition to their own green living they can host websites on greener servers where energy and CO2 is offset.
Considerations for any “marketing product” include:
* reducing the amount of materials required for production
* using paper and materials made with recycled, post-consumer waste
* printing with low-VOC inks
* what production methods require the least amount of transport
* which vendors use renewable energy
* if the product can fulfill more than one purpose
* if the end-product is biodegradable or recyclable
* if the end-product can be replaced by a digital, rather than printed, format
* just-in-time production to reduce number of units produced and warehoused
* which vendors sell products certified by third party NGOs.
Always as a design agency to show you its environmental policy and look for their certification to BS8555 or ISO14001 which shows they have independent accreditation of their dedicated to environmental management; an environmental graphic design agency such as Oxygen Creative in Tiverton, Devon serves as a benchmark.

Is there a Master’s degree in Graphic design and web development applications?
Arts, graphic design, web development applications for a computer engineer and a B.Sc. holder. Is it possible to get a Master’s degree in arts while you have got a B.Sc. degree?
These sites might help you. It lists schools by State, then search that school’s website.
Here’s the answer from the last website:
However you ask about "WEB" design. Let’s get something straight from the get-go. FIRST and foremost you must learn DESIGN. Period.
__ Now, most of the time I don’t know if people are actually talking about DESIGN or if they’re merely talking about the mechanics of building web information delivery. While they are two entirely different things, the industry seems to have muddled their meanings, just to sell you stuff. If you take a sober look at the wildly successful "Designing Web Graphics" book, you’ll see it has nothing to do with design. Nothing. If you look at 99% of all the other books that have "Web" and "Design" in the title you think you’re going to learn how to design. But you won’t. No single book fills the challenge, and most are talking about building tables and rollovers. So read my lips: to learn Web design, learn design first.
__ All three alternatives you stated above will work for you, however "efficiency" is a very vague term when describing a discipline. Design does not come efficiently. It will come with
a) exposure to and study of the work of masters
b) understanding how to analyze any given design problem
c) understanding how to analyze who your message is intended for
d) understanding how to apply simple design rules
e) sensitizing vision to see and recognize when good design is achieved
f) many, many, many, many, many design exercises, trials and errors.

Please help, need advice in changing career from graphic to web design?
HI I’ve been a print graphic designer for the past few years and have a strong portfolio. Now I am interested in doing web design. I do have a little experience with HTML and Dreamweaver, but still have a lot to learn. Should I be willing to take a pay cut for lack of experience? Would $15 an hour be a good starting point?
Graphics are the main part of any website. If you are good with Photoshop and HTML, you can charge a decent amount. However, "per hour" is not the ideal way to charge, since some problems which the coder adds may add additional time to fix. Charging per page is more fair to the customer and satisfaction will be greater the then $$/hr method.

Good Luck!

What is a good american university for graphic design, web design and/or business?
If anyone can give me a few or a list that I can look through, I’m interested in any/all those areas and have background in them. If anyone can list some good universities that possibly have all three, or two that I could take it’d be great.
Very much appreciated.
